Recent research on gut microbiota and high blood pressure has received increased attention showing an association between the two. It starts in the mouth internally and includes the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, and genitourinary system. Externally, the skin microbiome is the first line of defence in natural immunity (innate immunity).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">The gut microbiome plays such a critical role in human health and disease that it has been called the \u201cforgotten organ.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>What does the M<\/b><\/span><b>icrobiome do?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span style=\"color: #ec2224;\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Microbiomes play a number of important roles<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s3\">Helps regulate gut hormones that reduce<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> appetite and regulate metabolism<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s4\">70\u201380% of the immune cells are in the gut <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">Supports the development and function of the brain (gut-brain axis)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p6\">Aids in the formation of neurotransmitters<\/li>\n<li class=\"p6\">Has antimicrobial (and antiviral) activity<\/li>\n<li class=\"p6\">Involved in protein metabolism<\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Many factors cause dysregulation in the gut microflora\u2019s structure, function, and interactions.
